Arduino is an electronic prototyping platform open-source hardware and software based on flexible and easy to use. It is intended for artists, designers, as a hobby and for anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.
Arduino can sense the environment by receiving inputs from a variety of sensors and can affect their around through the control of lights, motors, and other artifacts. The microcontroller of the plate is programd using the Arduino Programming Language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino Development Environment (based on Processing). The Arduino projects can be stand-alone or can communicate with software running on a computer (for example with MaxMSP, Processing, Flash, etc.).
The plates can be assembled by hand or order pre-assembled; software can be downloaded free of charge. The hardware reference designs (CAD files) are available under open source license, so you are free to adapt them to your needs.
Arduino ac honori received a mention in the digital section Communities of the Ars Electronica Prix in 2006.
